If you’ve been following my work, you would have seen that I recently began a series of posts on how we can transform our everyday day into a beautiful and inspiring one. One of the things that I’ve learned about myself is that self-awareness is a two-way street. It is important to realize that you don’t have to live in the moment all the time. You can take actions that foster self-awareness.
This week I decided to go back and re-read the first section of this post, titled “How To Be A Self-Aware Person”. The purpose of the blog was to help you find purpose in life, so its not too much of a surprise to me that I also found myself saying the same thing. It was one of those posts that made me think that I need to try to become more self-aware.
The last time I blogged about this, I wrote about how I needed to become more aware of my mind, but also how I was always aware of my body. The purpose of this particular post was to remind you that you do not have to be present at the events of your life. You can simply be aware of what is going on around you and what you need to do to help yourself and the life you are living. This is the real power of self-awareness.
It’s not just you that needs to become more self-aware, it’s your entire life. This is a life which requires that you understand your thoughts, feelings, and actions. This is a life which demands that you be aware of the world around you, including the people around you, your surroundings, and your surroundings. This is a life which is constantly pushing you to become more aware and to learn new things.
That is of course unless you’re in a coma.
I have to admit, I have to be the only one who doesn’ t get the real point of all this. Self-awareness is not about “being” better. Self-awareness is not about anything. In fact, Self-Awareness is the opposite of self-consciousness at it is everything. To be self-aware you must become aware of all of your thoughts, feelings, and actions.
And now I see the reason for all of the hate for the word “Self-Awareness”, it is so that people can say “I’m not Self-Aware”. Self-awareness is not about being better or smarter, self-awareness is not about anything. In fact, Self-Awareness is the opposite of self-consciousness, it is everything. To be self-aware you must become aware of all your thoughts, feelings, and actions.
“Self-awareness” is a word that seems to have been invented to express what self-consciousness is. For example, when you feel nervous, anxious, or insecure, you say you are self-aware because you know your body. If you are aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions, then you are self-aware.
The exact opposite of self-awareness is Self-Criticism. Self-criticism is the belief that negative thoughts, feelings, or actions are a bad thing and that you are a bad person. Self-criticism is a very negative emotion, and a lot of people who are self-critical have a lot of bad habits. Self-criticism is a very common thing and a lot of people who are self-critical are at least aware of how they are doing this.
I’d like to think that at some point in my life I’ve always been self-aware. That’s just a myth. In reality, I was self-aware for about two years in my early 20’s, but then, and again here, I am a bit older now.
